Getting here
By car on the SS195, by ARST bus, from Elmas airport: all the routes to Capoterra.
Capoterra lies about 15 kilometres from the centre of Cagliari and 10 kilometres from Elmas airport. The SS195 (the "Pedemontana") connects it to the capital in just under 20 minutes by car. By bus, the ARST network operates direct lines from Cagliari station several times a day.
By car
The main road is the SS195 Sulcitana, which starts from Cagliari (exit at the Macchiareddu industrial area) and crosses Capoterra heading south, towards Sarroch and Pula. The route flows smoothly, with two lanes per direction for most of the stretch.
Indicative travel times: ~20 min from central Cagliari, ~10 min from Elmas airport, ~30 min from Pula, ~50 min from Chia. In summer traffic increases on weekends due to beach travel: best to leave before 10:00 or after 16:00.
Once in town, internal road signs distinguish the three settlements: historic centre (exit "Capoterra centro"), Poggio dei Pini (dedicated exit, climbing into the hills) and the coastal strip (junction for Frutti d'Oro / La Maddalena Spiaggia, seaside).
By bus (ARST)
ARST operates several lines to Capoterra from Piazza Matteotti station in Cagliari. The main one is line 130 Cagliari–Capoterra centro, with departures every 30–60 minutes on weekdays and reduced frequency on holidays.
Other lines serve Sarroch, Pula and Chia with intermediate stops in Capoterra (Maddalena area, Frutti d'Oro). Check times and fares on the ARST website or via the official app.
A standard ticket costs about €1.30 and is sold at tobacco shops, vending machines at the station, or directly on board (with a surcharge). Valid for 90 minutes from validation.
From Cagliari Elmas airport
Cagliari Elmas airport is ~10 minutes by car from Capoterra via SS195. By taxi the fare is indicatively €25–35 (fixed rate to Capoterra Centro, to be agreed with the driver for the smaller frazioni).
By public bus, the airport connects to Cagliari Piazza Matteotti via the ARST airport line (~10 min, ~€1.30), and from there you take line 130 to Capoterra. Total travel time is roughly 45–60 minutes including waiting and transfer.
Private transfer services and car rental (Sicilybycar, Hertz, Avis, Sixt) are available at the airport if you prefer to move independently, especially if you plan to explore the coastal frazioni and the inland.
Parking
In Capoterra centre there are several free parking areas: Piazza Sant'Efisio (central, near the parish church), Via Roma (paid blue zone in the main stretch, free in the side streets), Piazza Liberazione (near the town hall).
For La Maddalena Spiaggia and Frutti d'Oro beaches: free roadside parking year-round, except during summer (June–September) when some areas become paid (~€1/h, ~€5/day).
